About The Book

This book offers a multidisciplinary exploration of environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, land use patterns, and rural livelihoods in the ecologically rich yet fragile landscapes of North East India. Covering a diverse range of topics—from bamboo litter decomposition and lichen-based air pollution monitoring to the transformation of traditional Jhum agriculture, the book emphasizes the region's complex ecological dynamics and socio-environmental challenges. It includes in-depth studies on soil organic carbon, land use impacts, tree diversity, carbon stocks, and water quality, alongside critical insights into tourism’s environmental effects, rural-urban migration, and livelihood generation from farm and livestock systems. Advanced methodologies such as remote sensing, GIS applications, and geospatial modeling are used to analyze biodiversity conservation, climate change vulnerability, landslide susceptibility, and human-wildlife conflict, especially in conflict-prone zones like Goalpara (Assam). This book serves as a valuable resource for environmental researchers, policy makers, students, and development practitioners seeking region-specific, research-driven solutions to promote sustainable land management, ecological restoration, and rural resilience in the North East.
