About Author
Dr Harender Raj Gautam completed his Ph.D. from the prestigious
Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1991. He joined his service
in Dr Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in 1992 and retired
as former Professor and Head from the Department of Plant Pathology in
2023. He has research and teaching experience of more than 31 years on
development of eco-friendly disease management technologies of plant
diseases. He has worked in 10 ad-hoc research projects funded by various
funding agencies of Government of India like Ministry of Agriculture,
Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment and Forests,
and ICAR. He has written 100 Research Papers in leading national and
international journals. He is a prolific writer and written 111 review / conceptual
articles on policy issues on agriculture, food security, climate change and
other topics of national importance in leading magazines and newspapers of
the country. In addition, he authored 236 popular science articles in more
than 43 magazines of the country on technology dissemination in plant
protection and also other topics of importance in agriculture and environment.
He has written/ edited 25 books, practical manuals, Souvenirs, magazines,
journals etc. He has been invited to present his research work in more than 26
international conferences organized in India and also in other countries like
Indonesia, Italy and Spain to present his work. He has been Member of
Academic Council of the prestigious Indian Agricultural Research Institute,
New Delhi, in 1989-90. He also served as an expert in project evaluation in
Department of Biotechnology and Ministry of Earth Sciences, Gov’t of India.
He has developed a botanical formulation which was also selected for ‘India
Innovates’ programme in a joint initiative of ICAR and Doordarshan Kendra
for telecasting the technology ‘Success Stories’ through national broadcaster
at the national level. He is recipient of ‘Himachal Shri’- Best Teacher award
conferred by Himotkarsh Jan Kalyan and Sahitya Parishad of Himachal Pradesh
in 2004. His work got accolades at the national level as he received ‘Earth
Care Award’ of Rs. 3 lakh in cash and a citation in 2010 by a jury headed by
noted agriculture scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, in the category of
Innovation for Climate Protection by the Jindal South West Foundation
and The Times of India for research work and awareness in the field of
environment protection. He is also recipient of ‘Himachal Gaurav Puraskar’
by Government of Himachal Pradesh in 2011 for the work on eco-friendly
disease management practices. He has organized 7 National Symposia/
Conferences/ Workshops/ Live T.V. Farmers’ Programmes. He has delivered
more than 100 T.V. and Radio Talks on dissemination of farming technologies
and also on career guidance.
