Wind-based renewable energy generation has had a significant resurgence in the past few decade. The reason behind this is due to advancement in technology driven by the advent of variable speed wind turbine generators, which include doubly fed induction generator-based wind turbines as well as full converter permanent magnet synchronous machine based wind turbines. In addition of providing grid support features the wind generators can be largely attributed to power electronic converters that enable variable speed operations. Modern power systems are complex networks, where hundreds of generating stations and thousands of load centers are interconnected through long power transmission and distribution networks. The main concern of customer is the quality and reliability of power supply at various load centers. Even though power generation in most well- developed countries is fairly reliable, the quality of supply is not. To improve power quality, custom power devices are used.
