Throughout the course of my extensive teaching career, I have
come to believe that a book on traditional textiles is needed, one that includes
information on traditional costumes, jewelleries, and traditional
embroideries from various Indian states as well as a geographical indication
tag.
The aim of this book is to provide students studying textiles and
clothing designing with a thorough understanding of vibrant Indian textiles
and costumes. Although courses have been designed, no book has provided
all of the most recent information on traditional textiles. The expected
outcome of this book is to raise awareness among students, scientists,
researchers, fashion designers, and job seekers. My extensive teaching and
research expertise has led to the writing of this book. I gathered information
via speaking with locals, reading books and articles by notable writers,
and conversing with senior citizens whenever I visited to new states and
locations. I gathered literatures from the Mumbai branch of the SNDT
Women’s University Library, which is an excellent resource for information
about Indian embroidery and textiles, as well as lecture notes from my
knowledgeable professors while I was a student there.
To make deductions, I gathered information from research papers,
electronic publications, and textbooks written by renowned authors.
This book will educate students studying fashion design about our
rich heritage of traditional textiles and help save some from extinction.
The resurrection of traditional art and craft is currently being pursued by a
large number of NGOs, private groups, institutes, and the state handicraft
board.
This book is targeted towards students, researchers, and job
aspirants gearing up for UPSC and other state-level competitive exams. It

will be particularly beneficial for students preparing for UGC-NET, ICAR-
JRF/SRF, and PhD entrance exams. The content has been specifically

designed to meet the requirements of the new syllabus for undergraduate
and postgraduate students enrolled in state agricultural universities, central
agricultural universities, home science departments of traditional
universities, and fashion technology programs. It comprises one hundred
multiple-choice questions with corresponding answer keys. It is my sincere
wish that readers will find valuable insights in this publication.
